Just think, the etymology comes from the Latin “curia ducis” or Ducal Court, to indicate the place where, during the Longobard domination, the administration of justice took place. It has always been the nerve centre of the city, of great historic and artistic importance, as well as a tram crossroads. It hosts the headquarters of UniCredit, once the Milan Stock Exchange, the Palace of Assicurazioni Generali and the former central office of the Post Office which has been occupied since last year by the only European Starbucks Roastery. If you turn to the left and right from this important hub of the city, you will see that on one side you have a road that goes straight to the Cathedral, and on the other side, you can see as far as Sforza Castle. The roads around here are called Merchants Street, Goldsmiths Street, Armourer’s Street, Swordsmiths Street…all road names which regard commercial activities. And do you know why?
