Il Castello di Montu\u00e8, un tempo Mont\u00f9 de Gabbi, \u00e8 una costruzione situata nella frazione di Montu\u00e8, nel comune italiano di Canneto Pavese, in provincia di Pavia. L’edificio era posto in posizione strategica tra la Rocca di Montalino e il castello di Cigognola, si trova nell’Oltrep\u00f2 Pavese, su un rilievo che domina il borgo di Montu\u00e8, in posizione dominante negli ultimi rilievi delle colline della valle Versa con vista che spazia sulla Pianura Padana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Storia
Mont\u00f9 de Gabbi, gi\u00e0 nell’XI secolo, era il centro pi\u00f9 importante del comune, di cui gli altri seguirono le sorti, Mont\u00f9 sta per Monte Acuto; era detto anche Montu\u00e8 ovvero Monte Acutello. Appartenne alla famiglia dei Gabbi fino al XV secolo, poi il loro potere fu usurpato dai Beccaria, che lo unirono al feudo di Broni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Non si ha data certa della sua costruzione, secondo alcune indicazioni posta attorno al XVI secolo. Torre inserita in un complesso rustico a cui venne annesso nel XVIII secolo il Palazzo d’Adda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nel 1818 ospit\u00f2 la regina Carolina Amalia di Brunswick, moglie di Giorgio IV del Regno Unito, durante un suo viaggio che le cost\u00f2 l\u2019accusa di infedelt\u00e0 al re suo marito.[1]<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Di propriet\u00e0 delle contesse Vittoria e Romana Rota Candiani, nel 1925, venne acquistato dall’ingegner Angelo Pollini di Pavia che presto ne inizi\u00f2 la demolizione per ottenere materiale da costruzione, venne letteralmente smontato sin quasi alla fondamenta e fino all’ordinanza che blocc\u00f2 i lavori[2].<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Struttura
Dell’originaria struttura, documentata da numerose immagini, resta poco, tanto da intuire il perimetro e la scala elicoidale che univa il pianterreno a quelli superiori. Montu\u00e8 Castle, once Mont\u00f9 de Gabbi, is a building located in the hamlet of Montu\u00e8, in the Italian municipality of Canneto Pavese, in the province of Pavia. The building was placed in a strategic position between the Rocca di Montalino and the castle of Cigognola. It is located in the Oltrep\u00f2 Pavese area, on a hill overlooking the village of Montu\u00e8, in a dominant position in the last hills of the Versa valley with a view of the Po Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
History
Mont\u00f9 de Gabbi, already in the 11th century, was the most important centre of the municipality, whose fate the others followed, Mont\u00f9 standing for Monte Acuto; it was also called Montu\u00e8 or Monte Acutello. It belonged to the Gabbi family until the 15th century, then their power was usurped by the Beccarias, who united it with the fief of Broni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is no certain date of its construction, according to some indications around the 16th century. The tower was part of a rustic complex to which the Palazzo d’Adda was annexed in the 18th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 1818 it hosted Queen Caroline Amalia of Brunswick, wife of George IV of the United Kingdom, during one of her trips that cost her the charge of infidelity to her husband the king.[1]<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Owned by the Countesses Vittoria and Romana Rota Candiani, in 1925 it was bought by the engineer Angelo Pollini of Pavia, who soon began its demolition to obtain building material; it was literally dismantled almost down to the foundations and up to the ordinance that stopped the work[2].<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Structure
Little remains of the original structure, documented by numerous images, except the perimeter and the helicoidal staircase that joined the ground floor to the upper floors.
