La zona\u00a0fu\u00a0scenario di\u00a0una delle pagine pi\u00f9 sanguinose della seconda guerra punica\u00a0(III sec a.c.). La costruzione del campanile si protrasse sino al 1333 e, nel 1341, venne coronato da una scultura in rame dorato raffigurante un angelo, detta Angil dal Dom.<\/p>\n<p>Nei secoli successivi, la chiesa venne arricchita con decorazioni, cappelle e altari.
