Sulla sommit\u00e0 del colle di Bertinoro con certezza fin dal X secolo, fu inizialmente sede dei Conti di Bertinoro. Nel 1177 vi dimor\u00f2 per alcuni mesi l’imperatore Federico Barbarossa; in questo periodo il castello fu oggetto di contesa tra Impero e Papato. Divenne poi residenza dei Rettori papali della Romagna (XIII e XIV secc.) e dei Malatesta fino al 1465.<\/p>\n
Appartenne anche a Caterina Sforza e Cesare Borgia, per divenire residenza vescovile alla fine del XVI sec., salvandosi da un grave degrado. Con l’arrivo di Napoleone in Italia, la rocca venne nuovamente abbandonata per oltre 10 anni, finch\u00e9 nel 1817 non venne ristabilita la Diocesi e fu oggetto di una nuova ristrutturazione. Nel 1986, a seguito dell’unificazione delle Diocesi di Forl\u00ec e Bertinoro, la rocca ha cessato dopo quattro secoli, di essere sede vescovile.<\/p>\n
Dal 1994 \u00e8 sede del Centro Residenziale Universitario e ospita ogni anno corsi di alta formazione, seminari, convegni e numerose iniziative culturali.<\/p>\n

On the top of the hill of Bertinoro with certainty since the 10th century, it was initially the seat of the Counts of Bertinoro. In 1177 the emperor Federico Barbarossa lived there for several months; in this period the castle was the object of contention between the Empire and the Papacy. It then became the residence of the Papal Rectors of Romagna (13th and 14th centuries) and of the Malatesta family until 1465.<\/p>\n
It also belonged to Caterina Sforza and Cesare Borgia, to become a bishop’s residence at the end of the 16th century, saving itself from serious degradation. With the arrival of Napoleon in Italy, the fortress was abandoned again for over 10 years, until in 1817 the Diocese was reestablished and was the subject of a new restructuring. In 1986, following the unification of the Dioceses of Forl\u00ec and Bertinoro, the fortress ceased after four centuries to become a bishop’s seat.<\/p>\n
Since 1994 it has been the seat of the University Residential Center and hosts every year high-level courses, seminars, conferences and numerous cultural initiatives.<\/p>\n
