Cattedrale di San Cassiano Martire<\/strong><\/p>\n Le forme attuali della cattedrale di San Cassiano sono frutto del disegno morelliano del 1775, ma l\u2019edificio sacro vanta una lunga storia: costruito la prima volta a partire dal 1181, venne consacrato nel 1271, anno nel quale vennero depositate le reliquie di san Cassiano, patrono della citt\u00e0. Conobbe un primo ampliamento nel sec. XVI, quando fu edificato anche il campanile. Gravi problemi di statica portarono il cardinale Bandi, a deciderne l\u2019abbattimento e quindi la ricostruzione ex novo tra 1769 e 1781. L\u2019impianto a croce latina disegnato da Morelli \u00e8 caratterizzato da tre navate suddivise da grandi pilastri, secondo un\u2019idea architettonica di chiarezza neoclassica. Il presbiterio rialzato rispetto alla navata principale \u00e8 il punto focale dell\u2019abside: due scale laterali ne consentono l\u2019accesso, mentre una terza scala centrale porta alla cripta dove si trovano le urne in marmo dei protettori della citt\u00e0: Cassiano, Pier Grisologo, Proietto e Maurelio.
