In ancient documents, the whole area including Santa Maria del Giudice, San Michele in Eschero (called \"\"Schleto\"\") in San Lorenzo in Vaccoli (called \"\"Vaccule\"\") was part of the locality \"\"Massa Pisana\"\".\r\nThe church becomes \"\"Baptimales Ecclesiae\"\" - also called \"\"Plebs Baptimalis\"\", that is Pieve, baptismal church - between the 8th and 9th century, with jurisdiction on numerous neighboring churches. The dedication to San Giovanni Battista is added shortly after, during the ninth century.\r\nThe building is remodeled and takes on the configuration that it is still possible to see in the year 1160, as evidenced by the epigraph placed on the architrave of the facade.\r\nAfter two centuries, in 1360, the Pieve di San Giovanni Battista was joined to the nearby church of Santa Maria Assunta, of the town of Santa Maria del Giudice. In a relatively rapid succession of events, in 1382 San Giovanni first lost the headquarters of the Pievano, then, at the end of the 16th century, also the baptismal font - that is, the privilege of administering the sacrament of baptism -, made to reconstruct from the bishop Guidiccioni from the bishop in the church of Santa Maria. All this completes the descending parable of the importance of the Church, since then called with the nickname \"\"Pieve Vecchia\"\".","rilevanza_stile_romanico":"The building has rectangular plan, with semicircular apse aimed at east. The basilica plant is divided into three naves from all sixth arches supported by lapid columns and pillars.\r\nThe facade is in salient, that is, consisting of a succession of inclined slopes placed at different heights, such as covers of the internal naves. It, the facade, is made up of white limestone blocks and dark green serpentine marble inserts. The lower order of the facade consists of five blind arches set to a molded basement. The archlors are treated with alternating white and green councils according to a two -place decoration typical of a few decorations of the Romanesque. The access portal is open in the central arch: it has two monolithic white limestone pilasters, with two capitals that support a sculpted architrave decorated with classic flowers. The archival placed above the architrave also presents a two -blown chromatism. The upper order has three blind arches with two -color archives and ends with a triangular pediment where there is an oculus opening with two -color inlays frame.\r\nThe entire main prospectus, moreover, is slightly asymmetrical for the presence, on the left side, of the bell tower, pre -existing the construction of the church and presumably used as a sighting tower. The bell tower, of massive and imposing shapes, has a quadrangular plant and is mainly built in masonry of limestone block blocks. A substantial restoration in mixed masonry is visible, perhaps due to a partial collapse of which, however, there is no testimony. The portion remained in original masonry shows four hanging arches on shelves that frame two mild orders. Finally, the roof of the tower is in Capanna, with brick mantle.\r\nSimilarly to the facade, the side prospects and the apsidal area are also made of white limestone fellow entirely exposed. On the sides, some monofor and two architravated portals and bezels open both outside and inside. The right one is now walled with blocks of the same material. The wiper facade, better preserved than the front one, has maintained the crowning to columns.\r\nThe interior, essential and severe, is very high. The roofing structure is in wooden goat and the brick mantle. The three naves separated by arches supported by columns with foliage capitals and two of which from reuse materials with corinthian decorations with acanthus leaves and angular volutes. A single apse closes the central nave while the lateral ones end straight and decorated with blind arches that remit the roof line. Internally the apse presents itself in simple shapes, all in limestone blocks with three monophous openings. The church floor, all at the same level, is entirely in terracotta.","come_arrivare":""},"geometry":{"type":"Point","coordinates":[10.464550059861486,43.7801689570311]}}
