The church of San Giorgio in Lugnano is mentioned in the Catalog of the Pisan Churches of 1372, a document that constitutes the first certain attestation of the existence of San Giorgio in Lugnano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The church was damaged several times during the twentieth century, due to the wars. San Giorgio is largely rebuilt in a minor Romanesque style in 1939, when it was used as a shrine for the Fallen of the First World War. Some ashlars on the apse wall and some portions of the side elevations remain of the original structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fa\u00e7ade has a gabled layout, with a wall facing in squared stone ashlars. The main entrance portal is formed by two thick stone jambs. La chiesa \u00e8 stata danneggiata pi\u00f9 volte nel corso del XX secolo, a causa delle guerre. San Giorgio \u00e8 in gran parte ricostruita in stile romanico minore nel 1939, quando viene adibita a sacrario dei Caduti della Prima guerra mondiale. Della struttura originaria rimangono alcuni conci presenti sulla parete absidale e alcune porzioni dei prospetti laterali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
La facciata ha impianto a capanna, con paramento murario in conci di pietra squadrata. Il portale d’ingresso principale \u00e8 formato da due spessi stipiti in pietra.
