L\u2019area dunale pi\u00f9 preziosa della Tenuta di Tombolo, all’interno del Parco di Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli si trova a Tirrenia, in una zona del litorale gestita dal WWF che non presenta l’uniforme pineta delle zone limitrofe ma un rigoglioso sviluppo di macchia mediterranea.<\/h4>\n

L’area, estesa su circa 20 ettari, \u00e8 attraversata da alcuni stradelli che conducono alla spiaggia, in parte libera ed in parte occupata da\u00a0stabilimenti balneari<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Le\u00a0dune<\/strong>\u00a0costiere ed i camminamenti sono dotati di barriere protettive in legno e di tabelle che illustrano le caratteristiche naturali ed invitano al rispetto dell’ambiente. Vi sono anche alcuni sentieri con informazioni sull\u2019ecosistema dunale costiero per le visite guidate e naturalistiche, corredati da cartelli con indicazioni botaniche.<\/p>\n

Le dune sabbiose pi\u00f9 vicine al mare e battute dal vento sono colonizzate da importanti specie pioniere come le psammofile, vegetazione di fondamentale importanza in spiagge dove lo sviluppo balneare ha spesso distrutto ogni forma di flora spontanea.<\/p>\n

Nei pressi del lungomare troviamo frammenti di bosco in cui vegetano i pochi rimasti dell’antica lecceta diffusa lungo la costa toscana prima dell’impianto delle pinete.<\/p>\n

Pi\u00f9 a monte le dune sono consolidate da vegetazione arbustiva tipicamente mediterranea, con ginepri, coccoloni, filliree, cisti, ginestre, oltre a lecci e pini marittimi.<\/p>\n

Nell’area \u00e8 presente un’altra pianta rara, la Periploca greca, di aspetto molto simile alle liane tropicali, che troviamo nel Parco San Rossore e in poche altre aree della penisola. Qui \u00e8 facile scoprirla in piccole depressioni fra le dune, dove vegetano anche giunchi, cannucce e altre specie igrofile.<\/p>\n

L\u2019Oasi delle Dune di Tirrenia<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u00e8 aperta tutto l’anno e organizza visite naturalistiche\u00a0<\/strong>su prenotazione con percorsi su sentieri natura nella macchia retrodunale e percorsi sulla duna costiera che offrono allo sguardo spunti panoramici e paesaggistici affascinanti.<\/p>\n

Tirrenia is home to the most prized dunal area of Tombolo Estate, in the Nature Park of Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli. This site lies along a zone of the coastline run by the WWF featuring thriving Mediterranean scrub, as opposed to the uniform pine forests of the bordering zones.<\/h4>\n

The area covers around 20 hectares and is crossed by a number of roadways that lead to the beach, some of which is open beach and some occupied by seaside resorts.<\/p>\n

The coastal dunes and the walkways are fitted with protective wooden barriers and boards illustrating the natural features and encouraging respect for the environment. There are also some paths featuring information on the dunal coastal ecosystem for the benefit of the guided and naturalist visits, with cards marked with botanical information.<\/p>\n

Important pioneer species, such as psammophiles, colonise the sandy dunes nearest to the sea and beaten by the wind. This vegetation is of vital importance on the beaches where the developing seaside resorts have often destroyed all kinds of wild flora.<\/p>\n

We find patches of woods along the coastline which host the few remaining old holm oaks spread along the Tuscan coast before the planting of the pine forests.<\/p>\n

Further upstream the dunes are consolidated by typically Mediterranean brushy vegetation, with juniper, berries, mock privet, cisti, broom, and also holm oak and maritime pines.<\/p>\n

This area hosts another rare plant, the silkvine, which is very similar in appearance to tropical liana, which can be found in the San Rossore Park and in a few other areas of the peninsula. Here rush, reeds and other hygrophilous species are easily found in the small dips between the dunes.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Tirrenia Dunes Sanctuary<\/strong>\u00a0is open all year round and organises naturalist visits upon booking with itineraries that follow nature paths in the scrub behind the dunes and routes on the coastal dunes, boasting charming views and landscapes.<\/p>\n
