The alpine Chenaillet ophiolite is characteristic of an oceanic crust created at a low spreading ridge. The sequence is discontinuous and differs from the classical sequence of the Penrose conference.
\nFrom the bottom to the top of the SW ridge of the Chenaillet, we have the sequence : serpentinized mantle, isotropic gabbro and pillows lavas. The dyke complex is missing. Only a few dykes crosscut the serpentinite or the gabbro. Sometimes, the sediments directly lie on the serpentinized mantle.
