Ha una superficie di 80379 m\u00b2 ed \u00e8 incastonato nella <strong>roccia tonalitica<\/strong>, vulcanica intrusiva.\u00a0Si trova nell&#8217;anfiteatro montuoso che divide la <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pnab.it\/poi\/val-nambrone\/\">Val Nambrone<\/a> dai <strong>ghiacciai della Presanella<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Nel 2007 e 2008, insieme ad altri laghi d&#8217;alta quota in cui vive il Salmerino alpino, specifici monitoraggi ittici ed ambientali hanno permesso di approfondire la conoscenza delle caratteristiche delle popolazioni ittiche presenti. I dati raccolti nel\u00a0lago Gelato hanno dimostrato che era privo di una comunit\u00e0 ittica residente. Negli anni seguenti quindi si \u00e8 optato per immissioni di Salmerino alpino. Il lago infatti \u00e8 idoneo per la riproduzione, ha disponibilit\u00e0 alimentari e soprattutto non presenta competizione con altre specie della fauna ittica. In fact, the lake is suitable for reproduction, has food availability and above all does not present competition with other fish species. Er ist von <strong>Tonalitfelsen<\/strong> vulkanischen Ursprungs umgeben und befindet sich im Bergkessel, welcher das <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pnab.it\/poi\/val-nambrone\/\">Val Nambrone<\/a> Tal von den <strong>Presanella Gletschern<\/strong> trennt.<\/p>\n<p>In den Jahren 2007 und 2008 haben es spezifische Fisch- und Umweltforschungen, gemeinam mit anderen Bergseen, in denen der Seesaibling heimisch ist, erm\u00f6glicht, das Wissen \u00fcber die charakteristischen Fischpopulationen in diesem See zu erweitern und zu vertiefen. Die im Gelato See gesammelten Informationen haben gezeigt, dass im See kaum noch Fischpopulationen zu finden sind. In den Folgejahren hat man sich daher dazu entschlossen, den Seesaibling wieder anzusiedeln, da der See f\u00fcr die Reproduktion der Fischsorte geeignet ist, da er nahrstoffreich ist und das Ansiedeln der Fische nicht in Konflikt mit der Fauna des Sees st\u00f6\u00dft.
