Nel maggio del 1213 il conte Orlando Cattani di Chiusi in Casentino fece dono a San Francesco del Monte della Verna. \u00c8 l\u2019inizio della storia di uno dei luoghi pi\u00f9 profondamente intrisi di misticismo dell\u2019Occidente.
\nAnche a voler prescindere \u2013 e non \u00e8 possibile \u2013 dall\u2019impronta di San Francesco e della storia, La Verna \u00e8 un luogo straordinario. La rupe calcarea culminante nel Monte Penna \u2013 alla sommit\u00e0 delle cui pareti occidentali si affaccia la cittadella monastica \u2013 si alza bruscamente dal letto di argille su cui galleggia: lo scoglio roccioso emerge, ed \u00e8 ricoperto, dalla foresta, conservata nella sua ricchissima variet\u00e0 da quasi otto secoli di gestione francescana che vedeva il bosco come parte del creato attraverso cui si manifestava l\u2019opera di Dio, e come tale da rispettare e venerare. In May 1213 the count Orlando Cattani of Chiusi in Casentino made a gift to San Francesco of Monte della Verna. It is the beginning of the story of one of the most deeply mysticistic places in the West.
\nEven if we want to ignore – and it is impossible – the imprint of San Francesco and history, La Verna is an extraordinary place. The calcareous cliff culminating in Monte Penna – at the top of whose western walls overlooks the monastic citadel – rises abruptly from the bed of clay on which it floats: the rocky rock emerges, and is covered, by the forest, preserved in its rich variety for almost eight centuries of Franciscan management that saw the forest as part of the creation through which the work of God was manifested, and as such to be respected and venerated.
