Il percorso didattico \u201cAlberi che toccano il cielo\u201d si trova a Campigna, nel cuore delle Foreste Casentinesi. Ci troviamo all\u2019inizio della strada delle \u201cCullacce\u201d, che sembra fatta apposta per immergersi in una lezione all\u2019aperto: facilmente raggiungibile e percorribile, presenta lembi di foresta straordinari e alberi monumentali. La strada \u00e8 lunga 5 km e termina alle Cullacce, alle porte di Sasso Fratino: centro \u201csimbolico\u201d del Parco, Riserva Naturale Integrale dal 1959 e dal 2017 insignita Patrimonio Unesco. Durante il percorso incontreremo numerose piante e anche se non siamo esperti potremmo imparare ad apprezzarne le differenze grazie a dei pannelli informativi con modelli e sagome per permettere il riconoscimento degli alberi. Le altre specie arboree sono individuate da cartellini fissati su pali in corrispondenza delle piante pi\u00f9 interessanti. The educational path “Trees that touch the sky” is located in Campigna, in the heart of the Casentinesi Forests. We are at the beginning of the “Cullacce” road, which seems to have been made specifically for immersing yourself in an outdoor lesson: easily accessible and walkable, it has extraordinary strips of forest and monumental trees. The road is 5 km long and ends at Cullacce, on the outskirts of Sasso Fratino: the \u201csymbolic\u201d center of the Park, an Integral Nature Reserve since 1959 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017. Along the way we will meet numerous plants and even if we are not experts we could learn to appreciate their differences thanks to information panels with models and shapes to allow the recognition of the trees. The other tree species are identified by tags fixed on poles in correspondence with the most interesting plants. Along the way, some additional labels indicate valuable specimens of the species already identified … so you can put your knowledge to the test!

Il percorso ha inizio presso Badia Prataglia, in localit\u00e0 Capanno. Da sempre esiste un forte legame tra l\u2019uomo e la foresta, dalla quale per lungo tempo le genti di questi monti hanno tratto sostentamento.
\nA Badia Prataglia la lavorazione del legno \u00e8 una tradizione secolare e gli operai forestali, in particolare, sono abilissimi nel trovare un utilizzo anche del pi\u00f9 piccolo pezzo di legno. Le loro sistemazioni idraulico forestali ne sono un esempio classico.
\nNegli anni il sentiero si \u00e8 arricchito di nuovi elementi: un corrimano con battipiede e piccole piazzole di sosta consentono oggi di arrivare fino al torrente. \u00c8 vero…non \u00e8 perfetto e neppure percorribile sempre e in totale autonomia…come molti vorrebbero. Essere accompagnati e aiutati \u00e8 un prezzo alto da pagare, e se da un lato questo pu\u00f2 apparire un limite, dall\u2019altro la bellezza dei luoghi e l\u2019atmosfera suggestiva che si respira ci

The route begins at Badia Prataglia, in the locality of Capanno. There has always been a strong link between man and the forest, from which for a long time the people of these mountains have drawn sustenance. In Badia Prataglia woodworking is a centuries-old tradition and forest workers, in particular, are very skilled in finding a use for even the smallest piece of wood.\u00a0
Over the years, the path has been enriched with new elements: a handrail with a footplate and small rest areas allow today to reach the stream.<\/p>\n
Il sentiero si snoda in un luogo speciale, ricco di natura ma soprattutto ricco di storia: a Campigna, piccola localit\u00e0 nel cuore del Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi ed all\u2019interno della Riserva Biogenetica dello Stato, gestita dal Corpo Forestale. La natura di queste montagne \u00e8 senza dubbio meravigliosa e ai nostri occhi appare selvaggia, ma con un po\u2019 di attenzione si rivela plasmata e modificata dall\u2019uomo.
\nQuando pensiamo al Parco immaginiamo creature meravigliose come il cervo, misteriose come il lupo, secolari e imponenti come gli abeti. Tuttavia il Parco \u00e8 fatto anche di tante storie di uomini e qui a Campigna c\u2019\u00e8 qualcosa di speciale: il viale dei Tigli. Questo luogo in passato ha attirato tanti viaggiatori, scrittori e poeti e oggi ci offre un elemento in pi\u00f9. Si tratta di un percorso semplice ma ricco di piccole sorprese da scoprire
\ninsieme: 350 metri che per alcuni possono essere una vera e propria conquista.<\/p>\n
The path winds through a special place, rich in nature and in history: Campigna is a small town in the heart of the Casentinesi Forest National Park and within the State Biogenetic Reserve. The nature of these mountains is undoubtedly wonderful and to our eyes it appears wild, but with a little attention it reveals itself shaped and modified by man.
When we think of the Park, we imagine wonderful creatures like the deer, mysterious like the wolf, centuries-old and imposing like fir trees. However, the park is also made up of many stories of men and here in Campigna there is something special: the Viale dei Tigli. This place in the past has attracted many travelers, writers and poets and today it offers us an extra element. It is a simple path but full of little surprises to discover together: 350 meters which for some may be a real achievement.<\/p>\n
Perch\u00e9 le nostre montagne sono cos\u00ec ricche di boschi, perch\u00e9 querce e faggi amano certi luoghi e non altri e cosa condiziona la vegetazione naturale? Il territorio \u00e8 un libro aperto pieno di racconti da interpretare e questo Sentiero Natura vuole aiutarci a comprenderne certe chiavi di lettura. Al tal fine \u00e8 necessario introdurre le definizioni di macroclima, mesoclima, microclima. Il primo si manifesta in un territorio ampio e corrisponde al clima di grandi regioni; con mesoclima si intende la variazione del clima di una regione a seconda dell\u2019esposizione o la pendenza; con microclima si intende infine la situazione in un punto limitato della superficie, come ad esempio il sottobosco di una foresta.
\nIl Sentiero Natura si svolge nell\u2019Alta valle del Tramazzo e parte dal suggestivo Lago di Ponte. La \u201cselvaticit\u00e0\u201d di questa valle \u00e8 per\u00f2 di \u201critorno\u201d: l\u2019uomo ha abitato e sfruttato questi territori fino a qualche decennio fa, fino poi ad abbandonarli. Non troverete le foreste secolari dell\u2019alto Bidente o del Casentino, ma una miriade di spazi naturali da scoprire durante la tante escursioni. La speranza \u00e8 di far apprezzare l\u2019equilibrio tra i viventi e l\u2019aspetto fisico del territorio: riconoscere un fiore o un albero e non comprendere perch\u00e9 esso si trovi in quell\u2019ambiente pu\u00f2 essere di scarsa gratificazione. Cerchiamo perci\u00f2 di camminare, osservare, riconoscere e … usare la nostra pi\u00f9 importante qualit\u00e0, l\u2019intelligenza.<\/p>\n
Why are our mountains so rich in woods, why do oaks and beeches love certain places and not others and what affects natural vegetation? The territory is an open book full of stories to be interpreted and this Nature Trail wants to help us to understand certain keys of interpretation. For this purpose it is necessary to introduce the definitions of macroclimate, mesoclimate, microclimate. The first occurs in a large territory and corresponds to the climate of large regions; mesoclimate means the variation of the climate of a region according to the exposure or the slope; finally, microclimate refers to the situation in a limited point on the surface, such as the undergrowth of a forest. The Nature Trail takes place in the upper Tramazzo valley and starts from the suggestive Lago di Ponte. The “wilderness” of this valley, however, is a “return”: man inhabited and exploited these territories until a few decades ago, then abandoned them. You will not find the centuries-old forests of the upper Bidente or Casentino, but a myriad of natural spaces to discover during the many excursions. The hope is to make people appreciate the balance between the living and the physical aspect of the territory: recognizing a flower or a tree and not understanding why it is found in that environment can be of little gratification. We therefore try to walk, observe, recognize and … use our most important quality, intelligence. <\/span><\/p>\n Il Monte Penna de La Verna \u00e8 una singolare montagna che si erge nel Casentino, crocevia tra Toscana, Romagna e Umbria, tra Appennino settentrionale e centrale. Ci\u00f2 che rende unico questo posto \u00e8 la presenza della foresta monumentale, delle rupi calcaree, ma ancor di pi\u00f9 il grande valore spirituale trasmesso da San Francesco, a cui il conte Orlando Catani di Chiusi don\u00f2 il monte. Monte Penna de La Verna is a singular mountain that rises in the Casentino, a crossroad between Tuscany, Romagna and Umbria, between the northern and central Apennines. What makes this place unique is the presence of the monumental forest, of the calcareous cliffs, but even more the great spiritual value transmitted by San Francesco, to which Count Orlando Catani of Chiusi donated the mountain. And it is precisely from Chiusi that our journey begins: from the castle built along the main road between the upper Arno and Tiber valleys, a position of separation between the two valleys that the name itself “Chiusi della Verna” seems to remind. In front of the ancient medieval palace there is the old Praetorian Palace which housed the Podest\u00e0 of the Florentine Republic, including Lodovico Buonarroti, Michelangelo’s father. From the ruins of the Castle you can see the houses and the cobbled streets of Chiusi and, upon reaching the Park Visitor Center, the Nature Trail of one of the most important places of Christianity begins. <\/span><\/p>\n Le vicende che hanno dato l\u2019attuale volto alla Valle del Bidente di Ridracoli ci riportano indietro nel tempo di molti anni. Ma l\u2019evento che ne ha cambiato maggiormente l\u2019aspetto, tra il 1976 e il 1983, \u00e8 la realizzazione dell\u2019omonima diga, il cui lago si dispiega per oltre 3 km all\u2019interno del Parco. The events that have given the current face to the Bidente Valley of Ridracoli bring us back in time of many years. But the event that most changed its appearance, between 1976 and 1983, is the construction of the homonymous dam, whose lake stretches for over 3 km inside the park. <\/span>What is the result? Today we discover a valley with many notable naturalistic elements, where tourism has allowed the creation of important tourist services and the conservation of some of the houses that were once inhabited. But the protagonist, in Ridracoli more than elsewhere, is still the water, which flows the Bidente Valley, which sometimes still moves the blades of the mills, once scattered along the courses of the Apennine ditches, which fills the dam and quenches thousands of people throughout Romagna. <\/span><\/p>\n Pan di legno e vin di nugoli. Questo proverbio definisce la vita del vecchio contadino della montagna toscana: pane di farina dolce di castagno e vino… delle nuvole, cio\u00e8 acqua! Vita grama, quindi, se si pensa all\u2019abbondanza delle pianure romagnole. “Pan di legno e vin di nugoli”. This proverb defined the life of the old farmer of the Tuscan mountain: sweet chestnut flour bread (“pan di legno”) and wine…from clouds (“vin di nugoli”), that is water! Poor life, therefore, if you think of the plenty of the plains in Romagna. But still a livable life, thanks to the tree that guaranteed the sweet fruit that, dried and ground, produced the flour, the food base of the winter. And even the smallest chestnuts were collected. Even a grain makes flour, old people said to children, and the chestnut, however small, is always much bigger than a grain of wheat. But the generosity of the chestnut does not stop here. Its leaves were used as cattle feed, and the waste fruit allowed the pig to fatten. Its wood, very resistant to humidity, was used to provide very solid beams for houses.\u00a0Tables were made from the chestnut for the furniture or to build the internal stairs of the houses, to make work tools, even the baskets, with the young shoots or the bark strips. That’s why it is correct to speak of a “chestnut civilization”, because the relationship of dependence of man’s life on the plant was decisive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Of course, today the situation has changed a lot, but when in October we return to “browns” for the harvest, we realize how this culture is still interiorized in people and determine its behavior.<\/p>\n Camaldoli \u00e8 forse il luogo pi\u00f9 famoso del Parco per l\u2019elevato valore naturale e spirituale della foresta e del millenario insediamento monastico. Monaci e foresta \u00e8 un connubio inscindibile e l\u2019albero simbolo \u00e8 ancora una volta l\u2019abete bianco. “Abbiano gli eremiti grandissima cura e diligenza che i boschi, i quali sono intorno all’Eremo, non siano scemati, n\u00e9 diminuiti in alcun modo, ma piuttosto, allargati ed accresciuti. (…) Inoltre procurino i Padri con diligenza che assolutamente si piantino, in ogni anno, in luoghi opportuni quattro o cinque mila abeti. La qual cosa, se per sorte un anno non si facesse, l’anno seguente facciasi per l’uno e per l’altro…”<\/em>.<\/p>\n Anno 1520 – Regole della vita eremitica, Beato Paolo Giustignani, Maggiore del Sacro Eremo di Camaldoli<\/p>\n Camaldoli is perhaps the most famous place in the park because of the high natural and spiritual value of the forest and the millennial monastic settlement. Monks and forest is an inseparable union and the arch symbol is once again the silver fir. This Nature Path has a more profane character and tries to tell some “characters” that have always populated this area: the trees. We will start from the simplest forms of plant life, to get to the giants of the forest such as the Miraglia chestnut. The path is also a small introduction to botany, to ignite the visitor’s desire to recognise the multiple number of life forms in the forest. <\/span><\/p>\n Should the hermits have great care and diligence that the woods, which are around the hermitage, will not be reduced, nor diminished in any way, but rather, enlarged and increased. (…) Furthermore, the Fathers should diligently ensure that four or five thousand silver firs are planted in suitable places every year. Which, if for a year by chance will not be done, the following year it will be done for one and the other… <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n Year 1520 – Rules of Hermitic Life, Blessed Paolo Giustignani, Major of the Sacred Hermitage of Camaldoli. <\/span><\/p>\n Nell\u2019immaginario del visitatore del Parco ci sono animali quali il lupo, il cervo o l\u2019aquila che appaiono emblematici delle caratteristiche e del valore di questo territorio. In realt\u00e0 vi \u00e8 un albero, l\u2019abete bianco Abies alba<\/em>, che sintetizza mirabilmente l\u2019elevata naturalit\u00e0 di questi luoghi e la presenza di testimonianze di storia millenaria. In the Park visitor’s imagination there are animals such as the wolf, the deer or the eagle which appear emblematic of the characteristics and value of this area. Actually, there is a tree, the Abies alba<\/em> silver fir, which admirably sums up the high naturalness of these places and the presence of testimonies of millennial history. <\/span><\/p>\n The story starring the majestic tree starts from the Monks of Camaldoli, who first equipped themselves with a Forest Code in 1080, devoting a lot of attention to silver fir, determining the transformation of large portions of the mixed deciduous and coniferous forest into almost pure forest formations of Abies alba<\/em>. The columnar and slender posture towards the sky, the evergreen being and therefore a symbol of the continuity of life even in the “dead” season, the exceptional dimensions, are all characteristics that have certainly contributed to creating a mystical and particular charm in the Camaldolese. <\/span><\/p>\n But what interested men, monks or foresters, was also the precious wood of this tree, whose trunks were particularly sought after for shipbuilding in the shipyards of Pisa and Livorno and used in the construction of the Florence Cathedral. The Nature Path winds inside the Fosso Abetio which, as the toponym says, is an ancient reforestation of silver fir. The observation points will help us to reveal some secrets of this plant symbol of nature and culture.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n L\u2019Acquacheta \u00e8 divenuta famosa per la spettacolare cascata. Tuttavia questo non \u00e8 l\u2019unico aspetto interessante del sentiero: esso ci conduce infatti alla Piana dei Romiti, in cui su uno sperone roccioso \u00e8 posto il villaggio dei Romiti, ormai ridotto a pochi ruderi. In questa localit\u00e0 sorgeva l\u2019eremo dell\u2019Abbazia di S. Benedetto in Alpe, fondato nel 986 dal ravennate San Romualdo, fondatore dell\u2019Eremo di Camaldoli. Era invece il 1302 quando Dante, esule da Firenze e diretto a Forl\u00ec, sost\u00f2 ai Romiti presso i Monaci. Il poeta ammir\u00f2 la cascata e la utilizz\u00f2 come paragone per il salto del Flegetonte nel XVI girone dell\u2019Inferno.<\/p>\n Acquacheta has become famous for its spectacular waterfall. However, this is not the only interesting aspect of the path: it leads us in fact to the Piana dei Romiti, where the village of the Romiti, now reduced to a few ruins, is placed on a rocky spur. In this location stood the hermitage of the Abbey of S. Benedetto in Alpe, founded in 986 by San Romualdo from Ravenna, founder of the Hermitage of Camaldoli. <\/span><\/p>\n It was instead 1302 when Dante, exiled from Florence and directed to Forl\u00ec, stopped at Romiti with the Monks. The poet admired the waterfall and used it as a comparison for the jump of the Phlegeton in the 16th round of Hell.<\/span><\/p>\n Come quel fiume c\u2019ha proprio cammino<\/em> Il cuore del Parco Nazionale \u00e8 costituito dalle Foreste Demaniali Casentinesi: oltre 50 km2 di Riserve Biogenetiche e due Riserve Integrali dal valore naturalistico straordinario tra Romagna e Toscana. The heart of the National Park is made up of the Casentinesi State Forests: over 50 km2 of Biogenetic Reserves and two Integral Reserves with an extraordinary naturalistic value between Romagna and Tuscany.<\/p>\n In Italy, important natural environments have often been safeguarded thanks to their marginal role towards human activities. This is not our case! The forests that you can admire today are the result of a thousand-year history where culture has evolved forms of respect and management of the territory perfectly compatible with natural balances.<\/p>\n This Nature Path goes up the small and enchanting valley of the Archiano d’Isola stream (a tributary of the Archiano), covered by a spectacular beech forest. This is the “Archian rubesto”, quoted by Dante in the fifth canto of Purgatory, about the episode of Bonconte da Montefeltro who, wounded in the battle of Campaldino (near Poppi) of 1289 between Guelphs and Ghibellines, saw pushed and dispersed his body right in the waters of the Archiano river in flood. Badia Prataglia is the most important inhabited center within the park; the name derives from the ancient Prataglia Abbey, of which only the church remains today which preserves a beautiful crypt dating back to the beginning of the 11th century. The inhabitants of Badia have always had a special relationship with the forest and for centuries they have been skilled craftsmen in woodworking. But let’s not waste any more time; let’s go along the path, and dedicate ourselves to observing nature.<\/p>\n Fiumicello oggi conta praticamente meno di una decina di abitanti, ma, appena 40 anni fa, oltre 200 persone popolavano i numerosi poderi della zona. Il Sentiero Natura si trasforma quindi in un \u201cSentiero Cultura\u201d per riscoprire gli elementi del paesaggio agricolo tradizionale e le vicende che hanno condizionato l\u2019evoluzione del territorio. Numerose sono le tracce del mondo contadino, anche se ormai prive della loro funzionalit\u00e0, ma con una eccezione: il Mulino Mengozzi, di propriet\u00e0 della famiglia Mengozzida secoli, \u00e8 rimasto in attivit\u00e0 fino agli inizi degli anni \u201860. ristrutturato e reso nuovamente funzionante \u00e8 testimonianza viva delle fatiche, della fantasia e delle conquiste dei popoli vissuti nelle inospitali pendici dell\u2019Appennino.<\/p>\n\n

\nEd \u00e8 proprio da Chiusi che inizia il nostro viaggio: dal castello costruito lungo la principale via di comunicazione tra l\u2019alta valle dell\u2019Arno e quella del Tevere, posizione di separazione tra le due valli che lo stesso nome \u201cChiusi della Verna\u201d sembra richiamare.
\nProspiciente l\u2019antica dimora medioevale si trova il vecchio palazzo pretorio che ospit\u00f2 i Podest\u00e0 della Repubblica Fiorentina, tra i quali Lodovico Buonarroti, padre di Michelangelo. Dai ruderi del Castello si dominano le case e le strade lastricate di Chiusi e, giunti al Centro Visita del Parco, inizia il Sentiero Natura di uno dei pi\u00f9 importanti luoghi del cristianesimo.<\/p>\n\n

\nQual \u00e8 il risultato? Oggi scopriamo una valle dalle importanti emergenze naturalistiche, in cui il turismo ha consentito la nascita di importanti servizi turistici e la conservazione di alcune delle case un tempo abitate. Ma a far da protagonista, a Ridracoli pi\u00f9 che altrove, \u00e8 ancora l\u2019acqua, che solca la Valle del Bidente, che continua talvolta a muovere le pale dei mulini un tempo sparsi lungo i corsi dei fossi appenninici, che riempie la diga e disseta migliaia di persone in tutta la Romagna.<\/p>\n\n

\nMa pur sempre una vita vivibile, grazie all\u2019albero che garantiva il dolce frutto che, seccato e macinato, produceva la farina, base alimentare dell\u2019inverno. E dei marroni andavano colti anche i pi\u00f9 piccoli. Anche un chicco di grano fa farina, dicevano i vecchi ai bambini, ed il marrone, per quanto piccolo, \u00e8 sempre molto pi\u00f9 grosso di un chicco di grano.
\nMa la generosit\u00e0 del castagno non si ferma qui. Le sue foglie venivano impiegate come foraggio per il bestiame, ed i frutti di scarto permettevano di ingrassare il maialino. Il suo legno, molto resistente all\u2019umidit\u00e0, serviva per fornire solidissime travature alle abitazioni. Dal castagno si ricavavano le tavole per i mobili o per costruire le scale interne delle case, per fare gli attrezzi da lavoro, persino i canestri, con i getti giovani, o le ceste, con le strisce di corteccia. Ecco perch\u00e9 \u00e8 giusto parlare di \u201ccivilt\u00e0 del castagno\u201d, perch\u00e9 il rapporto di dipendenza della vita dell\u2019uomo dalla pianta era decisivo.
\nCerto oggi la situazione \u00e8 molto cambiata, ma quando nell\u2019ottobre si torna \u201ca marroni\u201d per la\u00a0 raccolta, ci si rende conto quanto questa coltura sia interiorizzata ancora nella gente e ne determini il comportamento.<\/p>\n\n

\nLa storia che vede protagonista il maestoso albero prende avvio dai Monaci di Camaldoli, che per primi si dotarono nel 1080 di un Codice Forestale, dedicando moltissima attenzione all\u2019abete bianco, determinando la trasformazione di estese porzioni della foresta mista di latifoglie e conifere in formazioni forestali pressoch\u00e9 pure: le abetine.
\nIl portamento colonnare e slanciato verso il cielo, l\u2019essere sempreverde e quindi simbolo della continuit\u00e0 della vita anche nella stagione \u201cmorta\u2019\u2019, le dimensioni eccezionali, sono tutte caratteristiche che hanno sicuramente contribuito a creare un fascino mistico e particolare nei Camaldolesi.
\nMa ci\u00f2 che ha interessato gli uomini, monaci o forestali, \u00e8 stato anche il pregiato legno di questo albero, i cui tronchi erano particolarmente ricercati per le costruzioni navali nei cantieri di Pisa e Livorno e utilizzati nella realizzazione del Duomo di Firenze. Il Sentiero Natura si snoda all\u2019interno del Fosso Abetio che, come richiama il toponimo, \u00e8 un antico rimboschimento di abete bianco. I punti di osservazione ci aiuteranno a svelare alcuni segreti di questa pianta simbolo di natura e cultura.<\/p>\n\n

Benvenuti a Badia Prataglia<\/h1>\n
\nIn Italia spesso importanti ambienti naturali si sono salvaguardati grazie al loro ruolo marginale nei confronti delle attivit\u00e0 dell\u2019uomo. Non \u00e8 il nostro caso! Le foreste che oggi puoi ammirare sono il risultato di una Storia millenaria dove la cultura ha evoluto forme di rispetto e gestioni del territorio perfettamente compatibili con gli equilibri naturali.
\nQuesto Sentiero Natura risale la piccola e incantevole valle del torrente Archiano d\u2019isola, rivestita da uno spettacolare bosco di faggio, affluente dell\u2019Archiano. Si tratta de \u201cl\u2019Archian rubesto\u201d, citato da Dante nel V canto del Purgatorio, a proposito dell\u2019episodio di Bonconte da Montefeltro che, ferito nella battaglia di Campaldino (nei pressi di Poppi) del 1289 tra guelfi e ghibellini, vide sospinto e disperso il suo corpo proprio nelle acque dell\u2019Archiano in piena.
\nBadia Prataglia \u00e8 il pi\u00f9 importante centro abitato all\u2019interno del Parco; il nome deriva dall\u2019antica Abbazia di Prataglia, di cui rimane oggi solo la chiesa che conserva una bellissima cripta risalente all\u2019inizio del XI secolo. Gli abitanti di Badia hanno sempre avuto un rapporto speciale con la foresta e da secoli sono abili artigiani nella lavorazione del legno.<\/p>\n\n
