Nel 1859 il Comune, reso autonomo dall\u2019amministrazione francese all\u2019inizio del XIX secolo, venne aggregato alla nuova Provincia di Massa-Carrara, nel 1863 assunse la denominazione attuale, col determinante In Lunigiana.
