La leggenda vuole che fondatore della pieve fu San Frediano, vescovo di Lucca nel VI secolo. La chiesa, a partire dall’XI secolo prese, infatti, il nome di Plebes de Fosciana<\/em>.<\/p>\n

All’interno dell’edificio si possono ammirare diverse opere d’arte, a cominciare da un’Annunciazione di Andrea Della Robbia, dipinti della scuola dell’artista lucchese Pietro Paolini, del modenese Antonio Consetti. Interessante anche la sagrestia del Cinquecento. Legend has it that the founder of the parish was San Frediano, bishop of Lucca in the 6th century. The church, starting from the 11th century, took the name of Plebes de Fosciana.<\/p>\n

Inside the building you can admire various works of art, starting with an Annunciation by Andrea Della Robbia, paintings by the school of the Lucca artist Pietro Paolini, by Antonio Consetti from Modena. The sacristy of the sixteenth century is also interesting. In posizione strategica (in diretto rapporto visivo con il borgo fortificato di Castiglione e la fortezza di Montalfonso a Castelnuovo Garfagnana), e ricco di edifici antichi fra cui alcuni importanti palazzi rinascimentali, si sviluppa ad anelli concentrici del rilievo collinare, sulla cui sommit\u00e0 si trova la torre medioevale.<\/p>\n

Nella parte pi\u00f9 elevata del paese, si arriva alla torre di Sillico attraversando il tessuto edilizio antico del paese.

In a strategic position (in direct visual relationship with the fortified village of Castiglione and the fortress of Montalfonso in Castelnuovo Garfagnana), and full of ancient buildings including some important Renaissance palaces, it develops in concentric rings of the hilly relief, on the top of which is located the medieval tower.<\/p>\n

In the highest part of the town, you can reach the Sillico tower by crossing the ancient building fabric of the town.

Per volere del duca Francesco I d’Este e di suo padre Alfonso III, diventato cappuccino col nome di padre Giambattista, nel 1634 venne fondato il Convento di San Giuseppe, pi\u00f9 noto come “dei Cappuccini”, che in quasi quattro anni fu quasi completato assieme alla chiesa.<\/p>\n

Delle tele commissionate a Guido Reni (Sposalizio della Vergine), al Guercino (San Francesco che riceve le stimmate), ad Annibale Carracci (Riposo in Egitto), nessuna \u00e8 pi\u00f9 in loco.<\/p>\n

Qualche decennio dopo si provvide a rintonacare la facciata della chiesa, cui si accedeva da una scalinata a doppia rampa., e a demolire il portico davanti al portale del convento. Il complesso, soppresso e depredato durante il governo Cisalpino, dopo alterne vicende \u00e8 stato restaurato. At the behest of Duke Francesco I d’Este and his father Alfonso III, who became a Capuchin with the name of Father Giambattista, in 1634 the Convent of San Giuseppe was founded, better known as “dei Cappuccini”, which in almost four years was almost completed together with the church.<\/p>\n

Of the canvases commissioned to Guido Reni (Marriage of the Virgin), to Guercino (San Francesco who receives the stigmata), to Annibale Carracci (Rest in Egypt), none is more on site.<\/p>\n

A few decades later, the facade of the church, which was accessed by a double flight of steps, was plastered and the porch in front of the convent portal demolished.
