A Moncione vi sono due costruzioni piuttosto grandi che distano poco l\u2019una dall\u2019altra: avranno pi\u00f9 di cent\u2019anni e li dimostrano tutti, una di queste costruzioni la pi\u00f9 grande rivela ampiamente le tracce dell\u2019attivit\u00e0 che in essa si svolgeva, un grosso rotone di granito steso sul pavimento, all\u2019esterno un condotto di acqua ormai franato in pi\u00f9 parti ed una piccola zona recintata in muratura che evidentemente serviva da deposito per raccogliere l\u2019acqua E\u2019 chiaro che si trattava di un vecchio mulino ad acqua, i vecchi contadini del luogo raccontano che era il pi\u00f9 grande dell\u2019Elba .<\/span><\/p>\n

Moncione ormai \u00e8 divenuto nel suo abbandono un luogo della memoria di pochi anziani che ricordano con commozione una giovent\u00f9 con pochi svaghi , tempi di lavori massacranti, e poco benessere, gli eredi del mulino tacciono e lasciano queste mura preda del tempo che ogni giorno se ne sfama producendo danni che tra breve saranno irreparabili.<\/p>\n

Erano quattro i mulini nel comune del Campese, tre nella pianura di Campo e l\u2019altro il pi\u00f9 maestoso era questo, il mulino del Moncione.
\nQuesto mulino lavor\u00f2 per circa venti anni, si dice, fino al 1911 quando Assunta Battaglini la proprietaria fu colta da quello che allora chiamavano \u201cun malaccio\u201d che la port\u00f2 alla morte a soli 59 anni , il luogo fu abbandonato e tutto and\u00f2 in malora<\/p>\n

In Moncione there are two rather large constructions that are a little apart from each other: they will be more than a hundred years old and all demonstrate them, one of these constructions the largest widely reveals the traces of the activity that took place in it, a large granite wheel lying on the floor, outside a conduit of water now collapsed into several parts and a small fenced area in masonry that evidently served as a deposit to collect water It is clear that it was an old water mill, the old local farmers tell that it was the largest in Elba.<\/p>\n

Moncione has now become in its abandonment a place of memory of a few elderly people who remember with emotion a youth with few leisures, times of exhausting jobs, and little well-being, the heirs of the mill are silent and leave these walls prey to the time that every day feed by producing damage that will shortly be irreparable.<\/p>\n

There were four mills in the municipality of Campese, three in the plain of Campo and the other the most majestic was this, the Moncione mill.
\nThis mill worked for about twenty years, it is said, until 1911 when Assunta Battaglini the owner was seized by what they then called “a bad boy” who led her to death at only 59 years of age, the place was abandoned and everything went down the drain<\/p>\n
