La prima notizia sul Lago di Porta risale al 1244 in un documento in cui si parla si Lacus Salvius<\/em>, successivamente, nel 1329, si usano i termini di Lago di Porta o Lago di Perotto (Ardara, Vietina 2002), periodo in cui risulta una intensa attivit\u00e0 di pesca, raccolta di piante e pascoli.In epoca romana sembra che il lago non esistesse o almeno che avesse una conformazione molto diversa, sono stati ritrovati infatti resti di un selciato di strada romana proprio all’interno dell\u2019alveo.Si iniziamo ad avere notizie di un lago vero e proprio, e di discrete dimensioni (circonferenza di circa 4,8 km) solo nel XVII secolo, anche se le origini del bacino sono sicuramente pi\u00f9 antiche e certamente collegate a quelle del Lago di Massaciuccoli.Si tratta del momento in cui, a seguito dell\u2019ultima trasgressione marina, inizia un progressivo impaludamento della pianura versiliese, legato alla formazione di dune costiere e di una laguna, di ambienti lacustri e sistemi palustri.<\/p>\n

L\u2019area fu importante zona di confine, tra comunit\u00e0 e tra stati, quindi area militare e di transito, luogo di dazi e gabelle (in quanto passaggio obbligato tra Versilia e Lunigiana), la cui importanza strategica \u00e8 testimoniata dalle fortificazioni di epoca medievale e dalla cinquecentesca Torre Medicea fatta costruire da Cosimo I .<\/p>\n

La storia del lago \u00e8 inoltre collegata a quella dei fiumi Versilia e Pannosa, che lo hanno conformato e ne hanno determinato il parziale interrimento a seguito delle diverse tracimazioni.A queste azioni naturali si sono aggiunte quelle antropiche che, attraverso opere di bonifica e varie tipologie di usi impropri (ad esempio come discarica di residui della lavorazione del marmo), ne hanno ulteriormente alterato forme ed equilibri<\/p>\n

Lake Porta<\/strong>, in the district of Montignoso, is a wet coastal area, the most northerly in Tuscany. It has survived the reclamations that have progressively reduced the marshes, which, historically, were strung along the Tuscan coast. Once upon a time the lake was connected to Lake Massaciuccoli<\/a> by marshland, now disappeared.\u00a0In this landscape you might see the great bittern<\/strong>, a member of the heron family that is rare throughout Europe. The lake, squeezed between the Apuan Alps and the coastal strip of Versilia, has for centuries been a strategic location for control of the coast and the roads between Massa and Pietrasanta.<\/p>\n

The lake was called Porta Beltrame\u00a0<\/strong>after a gate on the fringes of Pietrasanta, and is fed by the streams that begin at the foot of the Porta cliffs. At the source, which is found near the Torretta Medicea<\/strong>, the water maintains a temperature of around 17 degrees centigrade. The wet areas, contained by embankments, is mostly covered by reeds<\/strong>, with little open water.<\/p>\n

A wood<\/strong>, similar to the damp surroundings of historical Versilia, has recently developed among the reeds and the wetlands, made up of trees typical of marshy areas: black alder, different kinds of <\/strong>willows and poplars<\/strong>. In certain areas there are some wet meadows, characterised by the presence of larch and rushes. A highly rare butterfly<\/strong>, the Large Copper, lives in this environment, in danger of extinction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
