Pietro e Paolo (XVIII sec.) di Colognole -il cui nome indica il passato di colonia romana &#8211; \u00e8 ospitato un organo realizzato tra il XVI e il XVII secolo per le feste di corte del Palazzo Granducale di Livorno e solo pi\u00f9 tardi convertito per usi liturgici. L\u2019eccezionalit\u00e0 dell\u2019opera \u00e8 dovuta al fatto che lo strumento \u2013sostanzialmente integro- \u00e8 forse il pi\u00f9 antico organo positivo ottavino sopravvissuto in Toscana e possiede ancora i decori barocchi aggiunti alla severa struttura lignea tardo rinascimentale.<span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> L&#8217;antichit\u00e0 dello strumento \u00e8 subito rilevata dall&#8217;ambito della tastiera che nella sua ultima ottava corta termina al La4 senza Sol #4. Il limite acuto delle tastiere al La4 cessa di venir praticato almeno dagli anni 30 del Seicento e viene quindi a costituire un termine <em>ante quem<\/em> per la datazione di questo strumento. Su autorizzazione del granduca Cosimo III acquist\u00f2 il terreno dal cavaliere Francesco Lante di Pisa. Disboscato e spianato il terreno il 20 maggio 1692 vi fu posta la prima pietra in presenza dell&#8217;arcivescovo di Pisa. Durante gli scavi per le fondazioni furono trovati pregevoli reperti archeologici (armi, vasi, monete ed urne) che furono donati al gran principe ereditario Ferdinando de&#8217; Medici. Il complesso, progettato dal livornese Lorenzi fu ultimato nel 1697 e fu affidato ai monaci dell&#8217;ordine benedettino, da cui prese il nome l&#8217;intera valle. Con l&#8217;aiuto finanziario del ricchissimo mercante Huygens di Amburgo, fu aperta la strada fino a Livorno (1694). In realt\u00e0 alla fine solo quattro strutture verranno effettivamente costruite come si individuano in alcune carte della costa livornese, ad uso dei naviganti, relative a dei portolani (manuali per la navigazione), nelle quali i mulini della Valle Benedetta, per la loro posizione eminente, sono presi a riferimento e \u201cmira\u201d per l\u2019attraversamento delle Secche della Meloria e l\u2019ingresso in porto.<\/p>\n<p>Nella prima carta datata 1769 i mulini risultavano ancora tre, mentre nella successiva del 1795, i mulini sono diventati quattro. Essi servivano per la macinazione del grano prodotto nei non distanti terreni pianeggianti.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c\u2026vedemmo un mulino a vento gi\u00e0 terminato, ed un altro pi\u00f9 che ammezzato, de sei che il Signor Filippo [Tidi] faceva fabbricare lungo la cima di uno di questi monti. Sono tutti di un disegno molto giudizioso, comodo, e sicuro, fatto dal gi\u00e0 Vairynge macchinista di S.M.C. e professore di meccanica e filosofia sperimentale nell\u2019accademia di Nancy, poi di Firenze. Quest\u2019ultimissima invenzione dei mulini a vento sarebbe di grande sollievo per alcune province della Toscana\u2026\u201d.
