L\u2019Orto Botanico di Lucca \u00e8 un istituto culturale e museale del Comune di Lucca aperto al pubblico. Custodisce un patrimonio storico-scientifico e architettonico di origine ottocentesca, collezioni viventi e museali di grande interesse e suggestione. Percepito spesso come giardino estetico e di paesaggio, attraverso attivit\u00e0 di valorizzazione, divulgazione e sensibilizzazione afferma il suo ruolo come testimone e portavoce di temi attuali quali la perdita e la tutela della biodiversit\u00e0, la sostenibilit\u00e0, l\u2019indissolubile rapporto tra uomo e mondo vegetale. L\u2019istituzione \u00e8 parte integrante della rete culturale cittadina e declina secondo la propria natura temi che possono essere condivisi.<\/p>\n

Fondato nel 1820, nell\u2019ambito di una serie d\u2019iniziative volte a incrementare l\u2019istruzione scientifica universitaria, oggi mantiene gran parte delle sistemazioni e delle strutture ottocentesche. La porzione meridionale del giardino ospita l\u2019ampio Arboreto con alberi secolari dall\u2019aspetto monumentale, la Montagnola destinata alla flora autoctona delle vicine montagne, il Laghetto e la collezione di camelie e rododendri.<\/p>\n
Nella parte settentrionale, \u00e8 collocata la Scuola botanica con una grande raccolta di piante medicinali. Qui si affacciano le antiche serre e quelle di nuova realizzazione, la Biblioteca, il Museo \u00abCesare Bicchi\u00bb con i preziosi erbari, una delle sedi della Banca Regionale del Germoplasma, che conserva i semi di variet\u00e0 locali d\u2019interesse agrario a rischio d\u2019estinzione. Recentemente \u00e8 stato realizzato un percorso sensoriale per non vedenti, visitabile in maniera autonoma con il supporto di una guida audio.<\/p>\n

In the northern part, there is the Botanical School with a large collection of medicinal plants. Here are the old greenhouses and the newly built ones, the Library, the “Cesare Bicchi” Museum with precious herbaria, one of the headquarters of the Regional Bank of Germoplasma, which preserves the seeds of local varieties of agricultural interest at risk of extinction. A sensory path for the blind has recently been created, which can be visited independently with the support of an audio guide. The main activities are aimed at raising awareness and teaching, the ex-situ conservation of the hygrophilous flora of Tuscany and the variety of agricultural interest at risk of extinction, the study of the local ethnobotanical tradition.
