Il paese, riconoscibile da lontano grazie alla Torre del Palazzo Vescovile<\/strong> e al campanile della chiesa<\/strong> di Santa Maria Maddalena, si erge a 188 m e domina il paesaggio dalla cima della collina con una splendida vista sul mare, ora no pi\u00f9 lontano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il nucleo pi\u00f9 antico ha una struttura concentrica<\/strong>, segno che il borgo originale doveva riunirsi attorno a un edificio difensivo che non esiste pi\u00f9, probabilmente costruito tra il XII e il XIII secolo. Nella centrale via Dante (cos\u00ec chiamata in memoria del grande poeta che vi soggiorn\u00f2) si affacciano gli splendidi portali in arenaria e marmo<\/strong> di vari palazzi nobiliari. Lasciando il sagrato della chiesa parrocchiale di S. Maria Maddalena sulla destra, una passerella a volta conduce alla piazza dove si trova il settecentesco Palazzo Amati, di propriet\u00e0 del Comune e sede dell’Enoteca Regionale della Liguria<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il cosiddetto “Palazzo Vescovile” era una dimora signorile costruita nella seconda met\u00e0 dell’XI secolo per volere del vescovo Enrico da Fucecchio. Divenne poi una fortezza militare dopo vari restauri avvenuti durante il dominio fiorentino e genovese, nel XV e XVI secolo. Dell’imponente struttura originale, rimane la grande torre merlata<\/strong>, con il coronamento di beccatelli in arenaria frutto della raffinata ristrutturazione fiorentina del 1468, e la pi\u00f9 piccola torre circolare munita invece di beccatelli in laterizio. The village, recognizable from afar thanks to the Tower of the Bishop’s Palace and the bell tower of the church of Santa Maria Maddalena, stands at 188 m and dominates the landscape from the top of the hill with a splendid view of the sea, now not further away.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The <\/span>oldest nucleus has a concentric structure<\/b>, a sign that the original hamlet was to gather around a defensive building that no longer exists, probably built between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. In the central Via Dante (so called in memory of the great poet who stayed there) the <\/span>splendid portals in sandstone and marble<\/b> of various noble palaces overlook. Leaving the parvis of the parish church of S. Maria Maddalena on the right, a vaulted walkway leads to the square where the eighteenth-century Palazzo Amati is located, owned by the Municipality and home to the <\/span>Regional Enoteca of Liguria<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The so-called “Palazzo Vescovile” was a stately home built in the second half of the 11th century by the will of Bishop Enrico da Fucecchio. It then became a military fortress after various renovations that took place during the Florentine and Genoese domination, in the 15th and 16th centuries. Of the imposing original structure, the large <\/span>crenelated tower<\/b> remains, with the crowning of sandstone corbels resulting from the refined Florentine restructuring of 1468, and the smaller circular tower equipped with brick corbels instead.
