The pretty village of 850 inhabitants. It rises on a sweet hill (532 asl), on the eastern slope of Monte Guadagnolo, in the valley of the Fiumicino torrent. The name would derive from the gens Romana Pisonia, lineage Caio Calpurnio Pisone, one of Nero’s conspirators, and Lucio Calpurnio Pisone, Roman consul, author of the Lex Calpurnia. More precisely Pisoniano originates precisely from the villa, located in the place currently called “routes”, the caves, where he found refuge the famous consul after the attack. The presence of this house gave the name of “Vicus Pisonis” to the entire nucleus existing there consisting of the patrician villa and adjoining accommodation for the large staff of slaves and freedmen. During the barbarian invasions the area took the name of Piscanum or Massa Jubentiana (from Giovenzano, another name of Fiumicino) and in 594 was donated, by Pope Gregory the Great, to the Abbey of Subiaco. In the 14th century, Pisoniano was given by the Church to the Colonna, then to the Orsini, and, finally, in 1572 to the noble prelate of the Apostolic Chamber, Girolamo Theodoli. The Theodoli family erected a large palace providing it with a small tower for defensive purposes that gave the adjacent district the name of Castelluccio. The tower collapsed on the afternoon of November 2, 1969. In the following centuries, the presence of peripheral organs of the Papal State saw reassert the control of the Church, until in 1871, was formed the autonomous municipality with the current name.

[12.959524,41.9056607]}}
