The town is dominated by the Rocca, whose terraces offer an extraordinary panorama that extends from the Tyrrhenian coast to the Apennines. The area on which today rises Rocca di Cave about 100 million years ago was on the edge of an ocean now disappeared (Tethys), at tropical latitudes, on the threshold of a large carbonate platform, which housed an impressive coral reef of which are still visible the spectacular fossiliferous outcrops. Because of this extraordinary wealth, in 2016 the fossil cretaceous reef of Rocca di Cave was established as a Natural Monument of the Lazio Region. From the terraces this geological and paleontological heritage has been further enriched with the discovery in 2016 of the first Italian sauropod dinosaur, a Titanosaurus of six meters lived in the area about 100 million years ago and was renamed with the name of Tito. <\/p>\n\n Absolutely to visit when you come to Rocca di Cave are first of all the fossil cliff but also the Geopaleontological Museum Ardito Desio, the astronomical observatory inside the Castle and, in the immediate vicinity of the village, the planetarium.
