L\u2019itinerario che stai percorrendo si sviluppa integralmente sulla sinistra orografica della Val d’Avio, costeggiando all’inizio il minuscolo Laghetto d’Avio, poi il pi\u00f9 corposo Lago d’Avio e infine il Lago Benedetto, che prende il nome dal progettista di queste imponenti opere idroelettriche, l’ingegner Ferdinando Benedetto.
\nQuesti tre invasi d’acqua artificiali, insieme ai due presenti rispettivamente in conca Venerocolo e ai piedi della Cima Plem, hanno una capacit\u00e0 di circa 50 milioni di metri cubi d’acqua. La loro realizzazione, iniziata subito dopo la conclusione della Prima Guerra Mondiale, era volta a sfruttare per fini idroelettrici la grande potenzialit\u00e0 offerta dai bacini naturali gi\u00e0 esistenti.
\nCome vedrai, l’attuale percorso \u00e8 in buona parte affiancato da un tunnel paravalanghe, utilizzato durante la stagione invernale per il transito dei guardiani addetti al controllo e alla custodia delle dighe.
\nDurante la Grande Guerra, il problema delle valanghe, che precipitavano dalle scoscese pareti soprastanti, era stato risolto realizzando un sistema di trasporto decauville a trazione animale. All\u2019interno della grande massa nevosa che si accumulava lungo tutto il tracciato veniva scavata una galleria che rendeva sicuro il transito ai soldati che salivano alle prime linee del fronte.
\nI Laghi d\u2019Avio, posti tra i 1904 e i 2540 metri di quota, sono oggi di propriet\u00e0 dell\u2019ENEL. Fondamentale risorsa per la produzione idroelettrica in Alta Valle Camonica, le acque derivano dal ghiacciaio omonimo, discendono quindi a valle lungo il torrente Avio, fino a raggiungere l\u2019abitato di Tem\u00f9 e a confluire nel fiume Oglio.
\nL\u2019ENEL utilizzava le acque dei laghi fino al 1984 per alimentare, tramite una condotta forzata, la centrale di Tem\u00f9 e continua a farlo a tutt\u2019oggi, tramite una nuova condotta che raggiunge le turbine della centrale di Edolo, costruita nel 1983 nelle viscere del monte Colmo.
\nQuesta centrale, dotata di ben otto turbine, \u00e8 una delle pi\u00f9 grandi d\u2019Europa e fornisce una potenza massima di 1.000 MW. Una delle otto turbine \u00e8 dotata di sistema reversibile, e quindi durante la notte permette il pompaggio al Lago d\u2019Avio dell\u2019acqua utilizzata durante la giornata e contenuta nel grande invaso artificiale posto nella parte Sud dell\u2019abitato di Edolo.
\nSulle rive del lago si pu\u00f2 ammirare, nel periodo primaverile, la fioritura della poco conosciuta Cicerbita alpina, della famiglia delle Composite, comunemente chiamata \u201cerba dell\u2019orso\u201d o \u201cinsalata dell\u2019orso\u201d. Ha propriet\u00e0 diuretiche e depurative. This itinerary is set entirely to the left of the Avio valley, initially skirting minuscule Laghetto d\u2019Avio, then larger Lago d\u2019Avio and, lastly, Lago Benedetto, called after the engineer who designed these imposing hydroelectric works, Ferdinando Benedetto.
\nThese three artificial lakes, together with a further two present, respectively, in the Venerocolo basin (Lake Venerocolo) and at the foot of Cima Plem (Lake Pantano), have an over 50 million cubic metre capacity. Work began on them immediately after the end of World War One for the purposes of exploiting the great hydroelectric potential offered by pre-existing natural basins.
\nAs you will see, most of the route is flanked by an anti-avalanche tunnel used in winter for transit by the wardens responsible for monitoring and maintaining the dams.
\nDuring the Great War, the problem of the avalanches which came down from the steep slopes overhead had been resolved by building a Decauville animal-pulled transport system. A tunnel was carved out of the huge mass of snow which accumulated along the route, ensuring safe transit for soldiers climbing up to the front line.
\nAt 1908 to 2540 metres in altitude, the Laghi d\u2019Avio are now owned by ENEL. Of fundamental importance in the production of hydroelectricity in the upper Camonica valley, its waters come from the glacier of the same name and run down to the valley in the Avio stream to Tem\u00f9 village before joining River Oglio.
\nENEL used the lake water until 1984 to feed the Temu power plant along a pressurised penstock. These waters are still used via a new conduit which joins the plant\u2019s turbines at the Edolo tunnel built in 1983 in the bowels of Mount Colmo.
\nThis plant, with its grand total of eight turbines, is one of Europe\u2019s largest and supplies a maximum power of 1000MW. One of the eight turbines has a reversible system and thus water used during the day can be pumped back into Lake Avio at night and held in this large artificial lake to the south of Edolo village.
\nn spring the flowers of the little known Alpine sow thistle from the Composite family, locally known as \u2018bear\u2019s grass\u2019 or \u2018bear\u2019s salad\u2019, can be admired on the banks of the lake. It has diuretic and cleansing properties. \nWie Sie sehen werden, wird die derzeitige Route gr\u00f6\u00dftenteils von einem Lawinentunnel flankiert, der w\u00e4hrend der Wintersaison f\u00fcr den Transit der mit der Kontrolle und Bewachung der D\u00e4mme beauftragten Wachleute genutzt wird.
\nW\u00e4hrend des Ersten Weltkriegs wurde das Problem der Lawinen, die von den steilen W\u00e4nden oben herabst\u00fcrzten, durch die Schaffung eines Decauville-Transportsystems mit tierischer Traktion gel\u00f6st. Innerhalb der gro\u00dfen Schneemassen, die sich entlang der gesamten Strecke angesammelt hatten, wurde ein Tunnel gegraben, um den Soldaten, die zur Front aufstiegen, Sicherheit zu bieten.
\nDie Avio-Seen, auf zwischen 1908 und 2540 H\u00f6henmetern, sind heute Eigentum des italienischen Energiekonzerns ENEL.
