\nRicordati di utilizzare sempre calzature da montagna e abbigliamento adeguato: in alta quota il tempo cambia anche velocemente ed \u00e8 importante avere sempre con s\u00e9 indumenti caldi e protezioni contro il vento o la pioggia. \u00c8 opportuno portare cibo e acqua, ed \u00e8 buona norma disporre di una minima dotazione per il pronto soccorso. Per percorrere in sicurezza l\u2019itinerario considera inoltre la possibilit\u00e0 di farti accompagnare da una guida alpina o da un accompagnatore di media montagna.
\nTi trovi all\u2019interno del Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio, a cavallo tra Lombardia, Trentino, Alto Adige\/S\u00fcdtirol e Svizzera, a cospetto delle pi\u00f9 imponenti montagne del gruppo dell\u2019Ortles-Cevedale. Oggi \u00e8 un luogo fortemente turistico, d\u2019incontro e di passaggio, ma gi\u00e0 dall’antichit\u00e0 queste montagne rappresentavano un importante collegamento di uomini e merci tra i due versanti delle Alpi.
\nTra il 1915 e il 1918 questo territorio fu teatro di aspri combattimenti tra Regno d\u2019Italia e Impero Austro-Ungarico. I luoghi ove si svolsero i combattimenti erano in genere ad alta quota, coperti prevalentemente da neve e ghiacciai perenni: per questo motivo, il conflitto prese il nome di Guerra Bianca. Proprio grazie alla conservazione facilitata dal particolare ambiente di alta quota, sono ancora numerose le testimonianze della permanenza dei soldati dei due eserciti su queste cime. Si tratta di elementi storici importanti, oggi tutelati dalla legge: \u00e8 pertanto vietata ogni azione di danneggiamento, compreso anche il solo prelievo di piccole porzioni di manufatti e reperti.
\nI contenuti proposti rientrano nel programma di valorizzazione del patrimonio storico promosso e sostenuto da Regione Lombardia all\u2019interno del Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio e del Parco dell\u2019Adamello con la collaborazione del Museo della Guerra Bianca di Tem\u00f9.<\/p>\n
Il progetto intende descrivere i luoghi, le vicende e i manufatti legati alla prima guerra mondiale, facendo emergere aspetti poco noti del conflitto, ma soprattutto intende ricordare che la storia della Guerra Bianca, e di tutta la Grande Guerra, \u00e8 colma di sacrifici inimmaginabili da entrambe le parti.
\nQuesto racconto vuole essere un omaggio a quei soldati che, nel sommesso compimento di un dovere o nella convinzione di onorare la propria Patria fino a donarle la vita, sono stati protagonisti di quelle tragiche vicende. Per questo ti invitiamo a intraprendere questa passeggiata non solo con un approccio rispettoso dell\u2019ambiente, ma anche della memoria di quegli uomini che qui furono costretti ad affrontarsi e a uccidersi.
\nDalla localit\u00e0 in cui ti trovi, posta nei pressi delle Torri di Fraele a 1932 metri, questo itinerario ti permetter\u00e0 di raggiungere il Ricovero delle Scale che si trova a poca distanza dalla cima del Monte delle Scale. Il percorso, marcato con il segnavia CAI n. 174, si sviluppa inizialmente lungo una strada militare e poi su sentiero attrezzato nei tratti pi\u00f9 esposti con un dislivello di 514 metri e un tempo medio di salita di circa due ore. Camminerai lungo un bellissimo percorso realizzato dai militari per accedere al sovrastante forte del Monte delle Scale, con uno splendido panorama su tutta la vallata durante il percorso di salita e, dalla sommit\u00e0, con una visione molto ampia sulle prime linee del fronte dello Stelvio. Avrai anche modo di ammirare le tecniche costruttive messe in atto per superare le varie difficolt\u00e0 imposte da un terreno difficile e in alcuni tratti impervio e strapiombante. Ma prima di iniziare la salita volgi lo sguardo ai ruderi delle Torri di Fraele.
\nSi tratta di antiche \u201csentinelle\u201d di guardia poste fin dal 1300 a vigilare sulla \u201cvia Imperiale di Alemagna\u201d. Questa importante via di comunicazione e commercio, passando dove oggi ci sono i Laghi di Cancano dirigeva poi in Engadina e da l\u00ec in Tirolo. Oggi viene detta anche \u201cVia del sale e del vino\u201d, perch\u00e9 lungo il suo percorso il vino valtellinese veniva portato in Tirolo mentre il sale dalle saline nei pressi di Innsbruck giungeva a sud nella Magnifica Terra. La via d\u2019accesso un tempo passava sulle scoscese pareti sotto le due torri. Il transito di uomini e animali da soma carichi di merci era reso pi\u00f9 agevole da passerelle in legno che, in caso di rischio di aggressione nemica, potevano essere rimosse o distrutte. Erano proprio queste le \u201cscale\u201d che hanno dato il nome alla montagna meta dell\u2019escursione odierna.
\nPercorrendo questo tracciato incontrerai cinque punti di interesse: un punto particolarmente panoramico lungo la strada militare, il Ricovero delle Scale, la galleria di collegamento, le postazioni d’artiglieria all’aperto e un\u2019altra posizione panoramica sopra i laghi di Cancano che incontrerai lungo la via del rientro, che \u00e8 diversa da quella di salita.

\nRemember to wear mountain boots and suitable clothing at all times. At high altitudes the weather changes rapidly and it is important to have warm, wind and rain proof clothing with you at all times. Bringing food and water is recommended and bringing a minimum of first aid supplies with you is good practice. For safety purposes you may also want to consider hiring an Alpine or Middle Mountain guide to accompany you.
\nYou are in the Stevio National Park, on the border between the Lombardy Region, Trentino, Alto Adige\/S\u00fcdtirol and Switzerland, in proximity to some of the highest mountains in the Ortles-Cevedale massif. It is now a popular tourist destination, a place of meeting and transit, but these mountains have been an important cross-Alpine transit route for both men and goods since antiquity.
\nFrom 1915 to 1918 the area was the site of bloody fighting between the Italian kingdom and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Most of the fighting took place at high altitude, where permanent snow and glaciers are the norm and this is why it has been called the White War ever since. It is precisely due to the specific conservation facilitated by high altitude environments that so much evidence of the presence of the two armies on these peaks has been conserved. These are important historical records now protected by the law. Any damage whatsoever, including taking with you a small piece of these historical items and finds is thus strictly forbidden.
\nThe information offered here falls under the historical heritage promotion programme sponsored and promoted by the Lombard Region in the Stelvio National Park and the Adamello Park, in conjunction with the Tem\u00f9 White War Museum. The aim of the project is to describe the places, events and artefacts linked to World War One, bringing out little known aspects of the war and, above all, remembering that the history of the White War, like that of the Great War as a whole, is a story of unimaginable suffering on both sides.
\nThe purpose of this story is thus to pay tribute to those soldiers who played a part in these tragic events, quietly doing their duty or in the belief that honouring their nation meant giving their lives. We therefore hope you will undertake this very beautiful walk in a spirit which is respectful not only of nature but also, first and foremost, of the memory of the men who were obliged to fight and kill each other here.<\/p>\n
From your current position, near Torri di Fraele at an altitude of 1932 metres, this itinerary takes you to the Scale shelter, a short distance away from the peak of Monte delle Scale. The route is marked Italian Alpine Club footpath no. 174 and develops initially along a military road and then a footpath fitted with safety equipment in its most exposed sections, gaining 514 metres and taking, on average, 2 hours. You will be walking along a beautiful route built by the military to access the Monte delle Scale fort above it, with splendid views over the whole valley on the ascent and from the peak and very wide views over the Stelvio front line. You will also be able to admire the building techniques used to overcome the difficulties posed by challenging terrain which is, in some sections, rugged and sheer. But before you start your climb take a look at the Torri di Fraele ruins.
\nThese are historic sentry posts at altitudes of up to 1300 metres built to watch over the Alemagna Imperial Route, an important communications and trading route which passed through the modern day site of the Cancano lakes before heading into the Engadine valley and from there to the Tyrol. It is now also called the \u2018salt and wine route\u2019 because Valtellina wine travelled along it to the Tyrol while salt from the Innsbruck salt mines headed south to the Magnifica Terra. This access route once passed along steep rock faces under the Torri. Movements of people and pack animals loaded up with goods were facilitated by wooden platforms which could easily be removed or destroyed in the event of enemy attack. It was precisely these \u2018ladders\u2019 which the mountain you are walking to today was named after.
\nThere are five points of interest along this route: an especially panoramic point along the military road, the Scale shelter, the connecting tunnels, the open air artillery emplacements and a further panoramic position above the Cancano lakes which you will come across along your return route, which is different from the outward route.
\nThanks to the assistance of the archive of the White War Museum, photographs of the area are also on display at this itinerary\u2019s points of interest. Erste-Hilfe-Ausr\u00fcstung soll ebenfalls bei jedem Ausflug in den Bergen ihren Platz im Rucksack finden. In puncto Sicherheit sollten Sie auch die M\u00f6glichkeit in Betracht ziehen, sich von einem Berg- oder Mittelgebirgsf\u00fchrer begleiten zu lassen.
\nSie befinden sich im Nationalpark Stilfserjoch, am Grenzpunkt zwischen der Region Lombardei, dem Trentino, S\u00fcdtirol und der Schweiz, vor den imposantesten Gipfeln der Adamello-Gruppe. Heute ist der Park ein Ort von gro\u00dfem touristischem Interesse, der Begegnung und des Durchgangs, aber schon in der Antike stellten diese Berge eine wichtige Verbindung von Menschen und Waren zwischen den beiden Seiten der Alpen dar.
\nZwischen 1915 und 1918 wurde dieses Gebiet zum Schauplatz heftiger K\u00e4mpfe zwischen Italien und \u00d6sterreich-Ungarn. Gek\u00e4mpft wurde vor allem auf den h\u00f6heren Bergen, die das ganze Jahr \u00fcber von Schnee und Gletschern bedeckt waren: Aus diesem Grund wurde der Konflikt schon damals als Wei\u00dfer Krieg bezeichnet. Gerade der besonderen H\u00f6henlage ist es zu verdanken, dass uns heute noch zahlreiche Zeugnisse vom Leben der Soldaten beider Nationen an der Bergfront erhalten geblieben sind. Es handelt sich um wichtige historische Elemente, die heute unter gesetzlichem Schutz stehen: Jede Besch\u00e4digung, auch das Entfernen kleiner Teile von Artefakten und Funden, ist strikt verboten.
\nDie angebotenen Inhalte sind Teil des Programms zur Aufwertung des historischen Erbes, das von der Region Lombardei im Nationalpark Stilfserjoch und im Park Adamello in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Museum des Wei\u00dfen Krieges in Tem\u00f9 gef\u00f6rdert und betreut wird. Das Projekt beabsichtigt, die mit dem Ersten Weltkrieg verbundenen Orte, Ereignisse und Artefakte zu beschreiben und wenig bekannte Aspekte des Konflikts ans Licht zu bringen, aber vor allem will es uns an die Hingabe der Soldaten erinnern, die im Wei\u00dfen Krieg und im Ersten Weltkrieg auf beiden Seiten k\u00e4mpften.
\nDiese Erz\u00e4hlung will jener Soldaten gedenken, die in der unterw\u00fcrfigen Erf\u00fcllung einer Pflicht oder in der \u00dcberzeugung, ihr Land zu ehren, bis hin zur Hingabe ihres Lebens, zu Protagonisten jener tragischen Ereignisse wurden. Wir laden Sie deshalb dazu ein, diese Wanderung nicht nur mit Respekt vor der Umwelt, sondern auch – und vor allem – im Gedenken an die M\u00e4nner zu unternehmen, die hier k\u00e4mpfen und sich gegenseitig das Leben nehmen mussten.<\/p>\n
Von dem Ort aus, an dem Sie sich befinden, bei den T\u00fcrmen von Fraele in 1932 Meter H\u00f6he, f\u00fchrt Sie die Route zur Schutzh\u00fctte Ricovero delle Scale, unweit vom Gipfel des Berges Monte delle Scale. Die Route ist mit dem CAI-Wegweiser Nr. 174 gekennzeichnet und verl\u00e4uft zun\u00e4chst entlang einer Milit\u00e4rstra\u00dfe und dann auf einem ausgestatteten Pfad bei den ausgesetzten Stellen. Der H\u00f6henunterschied betr\u00e4gt 514 Meter und die durchschnittliche Aufstiegszeit ist von etwa zwei Stunden. Sie wandern auf einem sch\u00f6nen Milit\u00e4rweg zur \u00fcberh\u00e4ngenden Festung am Berg Monte delle Scale, von wo aus Sie w\u00e4hrend des Aufstiegs einen herrlichen Blick auf das gesamte Tal haben. Vom Gipfel aus blicken Sie weit auf die Frontlinien des Stilfserjochs. Die Route verschafft Ihnen auch einen Einblick in die Bautechniken, die hier eingesetzt wurden, um die Schwierigkeiten durch das schwierige und an einigen Stellen undurchl\u00e4ssige und \u00fcberh\u00e4ngende Gel\u00e4nde zu \u00fcberwinden. Doch bevor Sie den Aufstieg beginnen, schauen Sie sich die Ruinen der T\u00fcrme von Fraele an.
\nDie T\u00fcrme wurden 1300 aufgestellt. Seitdem bewachen die \u201ealten W\u00e4chter\u201c die \u201eKaiserstra\u00dfe\u201c, die damals ins Deutsche Reich f\u00fchrte. Der wichtige Verkehrs- und Handelsweg f\u00fchrte an den Cancano-Seen vorbei und von dort aus ins Engadin und nach Tirol. Bekannt ist heute die Stra\u00dfe auch als die \u201eSalz- und Weinstra\u00dfe\u201c, denn entlang ihrer Route wurde der Veltliner Wein nach Tirol gebracht, w\u00e4hrend das Salz aus den Salinen bei Innsbruck in das sch\u00f6ne Land im S\u00fcden gelangte. Der Weg f\u00fchrte einst an den steilen W\u00e4nden unterhalb der beiden T\u00fcrme entlang. H\u00f6lzerne Stege erleichterten den Durchgang von Menschen und mit Waren beladenen Lasttieren und konnten bei Gefahr eines feindlichen Angriffs entfernt oder zerst\u00f6rt werden. Genau diese Stege (auf Italienisch \u201escale\u201c) gaben dem Berg, der Ziel des heutigen Ausflugs ist, seinen Namen.
\nEntlang der Route treffen Sie auf f\u00fcnf Interessenpunkte: einen besonders aussichtsreichen Punkt entlang der Milit\u00e4rstra\u00dfe, die Schutzh\u00fctte Ricovero delle Scale, der Verbindungstunnel, die Artilleriestellungen im Freien und einen weiteren panoramischen Punkt \u00fcber den Cancano-Seen, an dem Sie auf dem R\u00fcckweg \u00fcber eine andere Route vorbei gehen.
\nDank der Zusammenarbeit mit dem Archiv des Museums des Wei\u00dfen Krieges sind an den Interessenpunkten entlang der Route auch historische Fotos dieser Gebiete zu sehen.
