La leggenda vuole che questa valle a V sia stata scavata dal Diavolo in persona nel tentativo di aprire un varco all\u2019Oceano e cos\u00ec spazzar via le tante chiese del Weald e del Sussex. Pare che per\u00f2 il rumore della pala abbia svegliato un gallo che si mise a cantare, facendogli cos\u00ec credere che il sole stesse per sorgere. Il Diavolo fugg\u00ec lasciando l\u2019opera incompiuta; l\u2019ultima zolla di terra che spal\u00f2 via fin\u00ec in mare andando a formare l\u2019Isola di Wight.<\/p>\n

According to the legend this V-shaped valley, the biggest dry valley in the UK, was work of the devil who decided to dig a trench to allow the sea to flood the many churches of Weald and Sussex, but the digging disturbed a rooster that started to crow, making him believe that the morning was fast approaching; the devil fled leaving his trench unfinished. The last shovel of earth he threw over his shoulder fell into the sea forming the Isle of Wight.<\/p>\n
