Nel tratto che va da Newhaven a Brighton pedaleremo all\u2019interno del Parco Nazionale delle South Downs, l\u2019ultimo ad essere stato istituito, nel 2011, tra i parchi nazionali britannici, allo scopo di proteggere queste colline (downs) dalla speculazione edilizia.<\/p>\n

From Newhaven to Brighton you will ride through the South Downs National Park, England\u2019s newest National Park (designated in 2009), even if the idea goes back to the 1920\u2019s when public concern was mounting about increasing threats to the downland environment coming from the impact of indiscriminate speculative housing development on the Eastern Sussex Downs.<\/p>\n
This small area is rich in many different types of habitats going from wooded and heathland ridges to wide open downland on top of chalk, resulting from sediments laid down over million years first in fresh water (125 million years ago, before the Ocean broke in, the South East of England was covered by a lake), then in salted water.
