Il centro urbano si sviluppa lungo un corso che sale lungo la collina raggiungendo la piazza centrale, Piazza Grande, che si trova alla sua sommit\u00e0.<\/p>\n<p>In luglio-agosto Montepulciano ospita il Cantiere internazionale d\u2019arte, una manifestazione artistica creata dal compositore tedesco Hans Werner Henze. The town is surrounded by walls and fortifications designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder in 1500 by order of Cosimo I. Montepulciano is known mainly for the grandeur of its Renaissance palaces, for the elegant beauty of its churches and for the Vino Nobile, one of the most appreciated Tuscan wines on an international level. The urban center develops along a course that climbs up the hill to the central square, Piazza Grande, which is on its top.<\/p>\n<p>In July-August Montepulciano hosts the International Art Workshop, an artistic event created by the German composer Hans Werner Henze.
