Quest\u2019area che si estende tra la Cattedrale di Canterbury e le cittadine di Faversham, Whitstable ed Herne Bay \u00e8 una delle pi\u00f9 estese d\u2019Inghilterra ad essere ancora ricoperte dal bosco originario. <\/i><\/p>\n
Di grande importanza sia dal punto di vista naturalistico che storico, questo tratto di foresta era attraversato da un\u2019importante via commerciale che nell\u2019antichit\u00e0 serviva a trasportare il sale dalle paludi di Seasalter a Canterbury. <\/i><\/p>\n
Al posto della chiesa intitolata ai Santi Cosimo e Damiano sorgeva inoltre una villa romana della quale sono ancora visibili alcuni mattoni sul lato ovest dell\u2019edificio attuale, risalente al XIII secolo. The Blean is one of the largest areas of ancient woodland in England. This section of forest was once crossed by an ancient track known as the Salt Way, used for the transport of salt from the salt pans of Seasalter through Whitstable and on to Canterbury. <\/i><\/p>\n
A roman villa occupied a site to the south-west of the present day church.
