Between 1480 and 1502 the church was deeply restored by Bertrando Maria Rossi: the pillars were rebuilt, reducing the spans from 4 to 3, the side aisles were raised and vaulted, the chapels were built. In the main portal the sculptures play the theme of redemption from sin. In the lunette Christ crucified is represented in a triumphant attitude; on the right are the sorrowful figures of Mary, of San Giovanni and of San Modano (to whom the church is dedicated), on the left the centurion who pierces the side of Christ and a child who collects the blood in a cup. In the lintel below are sculpted human figures and fantastic animals, symbols of vices (or false prophets) and heresy, symbolized in the center by the donkey playing the zither.

The secondary portal includes the lunette with the Adoration of the Magi scene (dated 1198) and the figures of the apostles Peter and Paul, whose tombs in Rome were the destination of the pilgrims who traveled the Via Francigena.

[9.989901222288609,44.510421669110656]}}
