E\u2019 il pi\u00f9 esteso e frequentato parco cittadino. Realizzato, su disegno del piemontese Sambuy<\/em>, per dotare Bologna di un grande spazio verde pubblico sull\u2019esempio delle maggiori citt\u00e0 italiane ed europee, venne inaugurato nel 1879<\/strong> con il nome di Passeggio Regina Margherita<\/em> (in omaggio alla moglie di Umberto I<\/em>).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I giardini, che hanno una superficie di 26 ettari<\/strong>, conservano buona parte dell\u2019assetto originario, vagamente ispirato ai parchi romantici inglesi, con ampi viali alberati, un laghetto contornato da finte scogliere di gesso, vaste superfici a prato, boschetti di querce e altri angoli pi\u00f9 naturali, un corredo di notevoli esemplari arborei in prevalenza esotici (cedri, pini, ippocastani, platani, cipressi calvi, qualche farnia, una sequoia).<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n

Durante i lavori per la realizzazione del parco, nell\u2019area venne alla luce un sepolcreto etrusco, dal quale proviene la pregevole tomba in travertino che si ammira ai margini del prato centrale. Una curiosit\u00e0, sul lato meridionale del laghetto, \u00e8 il breve tratto all\u2019aperto che ancora compie l\u2019antico canale di Savena (1176), una delle vie d\u2019acqua che un tempo caratterizzava la citt\u00e0.<\/section>\n

It is the largest and certainly the most popular city park. It was designed by the Piedmontese Sambuy to provide Bologna with an ample green and public place as in other Italian and European cities. It was opened in 1879 with the name of \u201cPasseggio Regina Margherita\u201d ( as a tribute to the wife of King Umberto I).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The garden has a surface of 26 hectares and largely maintains the original design: it is vaguely inspired by the English romantic parks: big tree-lined avenues, a little lake surrounded by artificial gypsum cliffs, wide lawns, oaks groves and other more natural edges, a series of considerable samples trees, mainly exotics (cedars, pines, horse chestnuts, sycamores,bald cypresses,some English oaks, a sequoia).<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n

During the works were found in the area some Etruscan sepulchres; now it is possible to admire a fine Travertine grave at the edge of the central lawn.
\nOn the south side of the lake it is possible to see a short open-air section of the ancient Savena canal (1176), one of the waterway which once characterised the city.<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n
