Testimone principale il castello, che affonda le proprie radici fra XI e XII secolo quando i Duchi anglo-normanni decisero di dotarsi di una fortificazione costruita su un terrapieno artificiale che dominava l\u2019Epte.<\/p>\n<p>Le lotte terminarono nel XII secolo, quando Gisors venne annessa al Regno di Francia. Il castello, privato della sua portata strategica, fu trasformato in prigione e nel XIV secolo ospit\u00f2 diversi membri dell\u2019Ordine dei Templari, la cui storia \u00e8 strettamente intrecciata a quella della citt\u00e0. At the end of the 11<sup>1th <\/sup>century, the second son of William the Conqueror started to build a first fortification above a great mound of earth and stones.<\/p>\n<p>Plantagenets will then endow the castle with a courtyard and built watchtowers. Sieges went on until 1195, when the Norman Vexin and its capital Gisors were conquered by the King of France. Therefore the castle lost its strategic function and in the 14<sup>th <\/sup>century was transformed into a prison, where were shut members of the Templars Order, whose history is strictly linked to the one of the city.<\/p>\n<p>According to some sources, a treasure once belonging to the Knights Templar would have been hidden in a subterranean Chapel located between the castle and the Church of St. Gervais St. Protais.<\/p>\n<p>Visits to the castle are only guided, available every day except Tuesdays, admission fee is of \u20ac5 (guide included); whereas access to the garden is free of charge.
