In the heart of Europe’s largest enclosed forest park (about 50 km2 surrounded by a 32 km long wall), Chambord, the dream of a young king and wonder of the Renaissance, is the largest of the castles of the Loire. It includes a garden and a hunting park classified as Historic Monuments. In 1516 Francis I, king of France from 1515, recently returned from Italy with Leonardo da Vinci, wanted to build a large building according to the style of the Italian Renaissance.<\/p>\n

The hunting lodge chosen by Francis I in 1519 quickly transformed into an architectural project of great ambition: a new “wonder of the world” destined to render its builder immortal, Francis I, the “architect prince”.
