La storia del borgo medievale di Montecatini Val di Cecina \u00e8 legata alla sua Miniera di Rame che ha dato il nome ad una delle maggiori industrie del XX \u00b0 secolo: la Montecatini SpA divenuta poi Montedison. Il Castello di <\/strong>Montecatini, chiamato inizialmente Castrum Montis Leonis, fu costruito dai Belforti verso il 960 arrivati dalla Germania al seguito dell’Imperatore Ottone I. Montecatini lo troviamo per\u00f2 nominato per la prima volta, nel 1099, in una bolla di Pietro Vescovo di Volterra, che ne aveva la giurisdizione civile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Camminando tra i vicoli, i chiassi, attraverso le antiche porte di accesso al centro storico , troviamo la bellissima Piazza del Castello sulla quale si affacciano la Chiesa intitolata a San Biagio, eretta nel 1356, il Palazzo Pretorio, un edificio trecentesco con una stupenda facciata abbellita dal portico; oggi il palazzo \u00e8 sede del Centro di documentazione delle risorse e delle attivit\u00e0 legate al sottosuolo nell’Alta Val di Cecina ed \u00e8 parte integrante di un circuito di visita del Museo delle Miniere. The Castle of<strong> <\/strong>Montecatini, initially called Castrum Montis Leonis, was built around 960 by the Belforti family, who arrived from Germany in the retinue of Emperor Otto I. However, Montecatini is mentioned for the first time in 1099, in a bull by Pietro, Bishop of Volterra, who had civil jurisdiction over it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n Walking through the alleys and lanes, through the ancient gates to the historic centre, we come to the beautiful place Piazza del Castello, overlooked by the Church of San Biagio, built in 1356, and Palazzo Pretorio, a 14th-century building with a beautiful fa\u00e7ade embellished by a portico; today the building houses the Centre for the documentation of resources and activities linked to the subsoil in the Alta Val di Cecina and is an integral part of a circuit of visits of the Mining Museum.
